September 2011: l’Université Français-Rabelais de Tours & l’Institut Européen de l’Histoire et des Cultures de l’Alimentation (IEHCA) Summer School, Tours, France.  Presented “Engraved in the Mind: the Significance of Smell”.

April 2011: Science Museum, London. Presented two sessions on Space Food at the monthly ‘Lates’ evening.

July 2010: Oxford Symposium on Food & Cookery 2010, St Catherine’s College, Oxford (theme Smoked, Cured and Fermented). Presented joint paper with William Rubel “Smoke Cured Milk of the Samburu”.

September 2008: Oxford Symposium on Food & Cookery 2008 (theme Vegetables). Presented “Up on the Farm: the Role of Vegetables in Conquering Space” to an audience of academics, food writers, historians, chefs and others.

July 2006: Food and History: Health, Culture, Tourism and Identity Conference, University of Central Lancashire. Presented “Stranger than Fiction: The Reality and Fantasy of Eating in Space” to an academic audience.

September 2005: Hex Garden Festival at Hex Castle (Belgium). Presented on Cuitlacoche and prepared a tasting for an audience of plantsmen and gardening experts at the invitation of the Comte Ghislain d’Ursel.

September 2004: Oxford Symposium on Food & Cookery 2004 (theme Wild Food). Presented “Cuitlacoche, Pest or Prize” to an audience of academics, food writers, historians, chefs and others.
